“Built in 1963, the main campus buildings of Madonna University have been plagued by aging equipment and distribution systems. Worst of these is the 40-yr old steam heating system. The source for this heat was boiler in the Maintenance building some 500 feet away. A system of utility chases and tunnels was initially designed to allow for piping to and from the buildings. Steam was then converted to hot water at local mechanical rooms and distributed to heating elements in the building.

Over time, the steam system became extremely difficult to access and repair. The end result was that the situation became a serious maintenance and operations issue for the University. Monal conceived of a system whereby existing steam converters and generating equipment could be replaced with new, high efficiency hot water boilers. Once installed, the hot water boilers were able to re-use the heat hot water piping distribution system. Work was phased to minimize disruption to the University.

Thanks to great support and cooperation by the University’s maintenance and building staff, Monal was able to bring this project in “on time” and “in budget”.
